For those of you who follow my Pinterest boards, you may have seen that I recently started a new inspiration board titled ‘it’s a dog party’. The only reasons I would consider throwing a party for our dog is because this is our puppy’s first birthday and the Mr and Tauren Poodle happen to have birthdays that fall one day after the other. All of Tauren’s “friends” belong to the folks we would invite to celebrate at the Mister’s party – so why not invite everyone including furry four-legged kind? This is the first time I have pinned for an event I was planning. In my newly-formed opinion, there is nothing quite like Pinterest to make you feel completely inadequate at throwing a celebration! Ugh! After about 20 minutes pinning party ideas, I had all but decided not to throw a party because I wasn’t going to have time to make cute little “doggie bags” and didn’t want to spend the money to have special invitations printed up.
This past weekend, I snapped some photos of Tauren at nearly one year old in front of our Apple Trees. As I upoladed the photos, I started to feel bad that I have not done anything to plan an actual birthday event for either of my guys. I said to myself “Wait a minute…pre-Pinterest I’d have done the party without any reservations, my way, without feeling any pressure to do or be.” So on Sunday afternoon I pulled it together, hopped on paperless post and sent out a last-minute digital invitation inspired by my Pinterest finds.I’ve decided to take it easy on myself for the party – no fancy homemade dog bones, and no special hot-dog menu. I am making old favorites that I can prepare beforehand like New England Clam Chowder, Kale Salad, and maybe even an Egg Strata. If I find myself with extra time, I’ll bake up some apples for seasonal flair too. They’re so easy and delicious. Simply core them, sprinkle with Cinnamon-Sugar and bake! I’ll have party guests serve themselves at our countertop and dine wherever they can pull up a seat, indoors or out.And in the spirit of being easy on myself, I’m not going to bake a cake shaped like a Poodle. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a creative idea, but I’d spend half of Friday afternoon making it look right. Why do that when I can order a very special Coconut Cake from The Peninsula Grill? You remember when I told you about these delicious Coconut Cakes way back before the ABCD Design re-design in 2008, don’t you?Images via ‘It’s a Dog Party’ – you can follow image links if they exist, my own from Standard-Poodle, and Paperless Post
