A funny thing happened last Friday. No, this isn’t the beginning of a bad joke! Read on…
I ran the post about Ryantown and then TWO different people mentioned the work of Tord Boontje to me within about a 10 minute span. First, Sean Low from Twitter said to check his work out. Then, the very L-O-V-E-L-Y Courtney from Under a Paper Moon mentioned his work in reference to the the patterns she used throughout her wedding decor! Small world, no?
It’s official, Tord Boontje has my dream job! He designs everything from Curtains to China, lighting to fabric, interior art installations to furniture.
You name it, he designs it. How wonderful to be able to cross over from one medium to the next with a following!
The work all fits into one very cool philosophy of which they describe best: The Studio’s work draws from a belief that modernism does not mean minimalism. That contemporary does not forsake tradition. That technology does not abandon people and senses. The Studio’s designs often temper edges with softness, borrow inspiration from nature, and employ a decor of forms and layers to engage and entice an observer’s imagination and emotions.
Working closely with fashion designers (like Steven McQueen) his studio has designed not only fabric, but an art installation for the store.
Needless to say, his book is on my list. Besides the amazing art and photographs, I would love to have this book on the shelf as a constant reminder.
It is possible to do floral design one day, interiors the next, drawings and then fabric design – each drawing on the same inspiration, with a cohesive plan, philosophy and style – all while executing each project to perfection.
Thanks for keeping my inspiration alive Tord Boontje!
P.S. When we were planning our wedding my mom said “ABC, if you get started now you could design your dress, bake the cake, plan the menu and make the food, design the flowers and decorate the space, design your invitations, make your headpiece and design and produce the favors.” Yes, please. If only I had infinite access to a studio with an entire team to help pull it off! winkwink.
