I took a few days off and traveled to Chicago. It was a bonding trip with mom. I have not had much time to bum around with my “De-De” since Mr. D and I married. It was just one of those few opportunities you can’t pass up. We even saw a full rainbow over Lake Michigan. That alone makes it a perfect “girls only” trip, doesn’t it?
Besides eating well, shopping and drinking far too much wine – Mom and I had a mission on this visit to Chicago.
Thirty-ish years ago I taught my best girlfriend how to color in the lines at nursery school. Last week she had her first baby. (You know, the baby she has been dreaming about having since we were seven years old!) We’re all pretty excited. As the Fairy Godmother, I must tell you that Hannah Elizabeth could be the prettiest little thing I have ever seen. She turned six days old when we met her on Monday afternoon. She looks a little like this: Jet black hair. Rosy cheeks. Red lips. “Snow White” – a beauty!
It was so much fun to drive around my old City. To the market, and shops – up Oak Street, down Armitage, up North and across Clark and Milwaukee where I used to love to shop, gallery hop and check things out. Take note: here is my list of “musts for yummy food” during a Chicago visit … I heart Reza, Coco Pazzo, & M Henry The Drake for tea, or the Cape Room for Lobster Bisque and Scoozi *actually, ALL Lettuce Entertain You spots are pretty fab for what they are. Mity Nice is mighty good for Michigan Avenue shopping spree sustenance!*
While this week I managed to fumble my way through Chicago *it’s been more than 10 years since I have lived there!* and do okay … somehow mom and I ended up at a “Chicago Steak House.” The steak menu was written on the side of an actual football which was placed on the tabletop between us. If you don’t understand what a COMPLETE turn off it was at our “girls only” table – I can’t even begin to explain why it was ALL wrong. Let’s just say that the experience has become a running joke between us!
Anyhow, instead of chatting about our bad Chicago Steak House experience – I thought I would share one of my more delightful culinary moments:
Back in August, Mr. D and I traveled to Amsterdam. We were only there for one night and wanted to make our dining experience special. We had the most delectable meal at the Michelin Rated Envy. We shared the tasting menu and it was completely incredible. Like, silly good. So good – I ate it three months ago and I am still thinking about it good. G-O-O-D, delicious good! Get it?
The space is a knock out.
The service top notch.
The food was beyond words … out of this world. Be sure to have the Lardo -don’t ask or think about what it actually is- just bask in the yumminess!
P.S. If you are traveling to Amsterdam, The Style-Files has put together a WONDERFUL design guide of the City. Be sure to pop over and download the pdf version (on the main page, side column) for your trip!
